Sarah Appleton graduated in 2016 from the Textiles BA (Hons) course at Arts University Bournemouth with a specialism in hand stitch. After graduating, she exhibited at both New Designers and the Festival of Quilts and was recently the Emerging Artist for the 'Threads of Narrative' project based on the archives of the Bankes family of Dorset. Taking inspiration from such far-reaching places as Science Fiction, music and deep sea creatures, her work is a unique view into a truly imaginative mind. Sarah's work has a surreal, illustrative quality which transports the viewer into her highly creative, often humorous, colourful world. As a self-taught embroiderer, she brings a refreshing modernity to her work by adding interactive smart materials and LED circuits into many of her statement pieces - which she programmes and installs herself - demonstrating the diversity of her skillset.
From her studio in Ferndown, Dorset, Sarah creates statement costume jewellery, prints, greetings cards and other joyous objects. Available for freelance work and bespoke commissions, please get in touch for more information.
